The origin of Vadha as a martial art within Tibet remains unclear. An ancient style of martial arts known as vajramushti is thought to be the predecessor to Vadha, as well as a great number of martial arts styles practiced today.
Vadha employs a combination of hand and foot strikes, parry and deflection techniques, and the use of control arcs. By using a control arc, the practitioner seeks to redirect an opponent's force of attack, or "arc of attack", rather than oppose the attack directly. In this way, Vadha's philosophy is similar to many of the traditional soft styles -- Aikido and Tai Chi in particular.
